Más allá de la paronomasia, la metonimia, la sinecdote, los Aztecas utilizaban en su poesía el difrasismo. Un par de sustativos que juntos son más que dos. Como la escritura china, cuya sabia caligrafía diseña "felicidad" como la unión de la mujer bajo el techo.
Entre las joyas Aztecas me conmueven en particular estas tres:

in tlilli in tlapalli ('black and red' for 'knowledge')
in atl in tepetl ('water and hill' for 'village')
